Would you be ready??

My husband and I have lived paycheck to paycheck. It's not a fun place to live. If any kind of emergency happens, you are stuck pulling out your credit card or borrowing from family. Either way it creates a problem. The interest on credit cards is crushing the average american family. Borrowing from family means that you will  feel obligated to them until you pay it off.

As many of you know, we have been on our debt snowball for a long time! I feel like it's never going to be zero ( but we will). Yesterday, I was told I will need oral surgery at the end of the month and I have to come up with 50% down. That is well over $1,000! I told her we don't use credit card anymore. She looked at me like I was crazy.

So, would you be able to pay for this in 2 weeks without credit card?  Well, I can take about half of it out of my emergency fund. The other half I have to come up with in two weeks.  I am going to be ready, but it's going to take some creativity.

What would you do? Would you break down and take out your credit card? We are so close to paying off our debt, I don't want to go backwards. Once we become debt free, I can start saving for my kids college funds or a new house.  I have to have this oral surgery, but I don't have to use my credit cards.

So, I will let you know what I do and how I do it as I figure it out myself! :)

Regarding you oral surgery, depending what it is, you could call Marquette Dental School in Milwaukee. You may be able to get your procedure done there at a reduced fee. It is worth looking into. Also for cleanings and some other treatments, check into some of the tech schools. The cost is much reduce, but you will need to spend some time there.

Will they do a payment program with you if you paid half down and took a couple of months to pay the other half? My local dentist will work with his customers.

By the way, I love your blog!!! I have just started my coupon addiction. It is too bad that I have to drive almost an hour to get to an Aldi's, and Walgreens. All we have in RC, WI is Wal-mart and Burnstads, which I usually shop their sales for the week.

I too am in debt to my eyeballs, but in 5 years I should be zero!! It seems like a very long time but with 3 kids and 2 in daycare that is how it needs to be!!

Thanks for sharing your experience!! You have opened my eyes in more way than one! I have also started to look at my packed house to see what I can sell sell sell!!

Dear Anon, Due to my complete fear of dentist, I need one that I trust and is gentle. This one is highly recommended.
BUT, thank you for the advice, my daughter needs a expander and they just gave me the info that it's over $2,500! I said we have to wait, so now I will contact the dental school and see what they can do to help!

Anon,
That is what they are doing. I have to have 1/2 of it on the day of the surgery and then they will bill me the other half in a few months.

Thank you for loving my blog! I appreciate the kind words! I hope you realize your dream in 5 years! I know that feels like a long time, but if I can do it ANYONE can!!
