Disney Reward Code... 25 points!!!

Here is a new code FPSNN83JX9 for 25 points!!!

What cha doing this Summer??

Last year I posted about our fantastic free summer and what we did....So, I am now going over my ideas for this year...

Swimming, $25.00 for the entire summer with the State Park Pass. We have 2 favorite park ponds...we may try a few others, depending on the cost of gas. This pass if for one vechile, no matter who is in the car.
Father's Day Concert, Free with State Park Pass. Each year we pack a blanket and head to the State Park and enjoy a Ken Lonniquist Concert. My kids love it.
Hiking, Free with State Park Pass
Fishing in Trout Pond, Free with State Park Pass
Library, Summer Library Program, FREE. Kids get to do events, read for prizes and enjoy free movies.
SummerFest, I have 2 free tickets from a summer fest survey
Bowling, Signed up for Kids Play Free program and each child gets 2 free games a DAY!
Family Fun Night in Town, Our Local Park and Rec brings music and events free for families on Thursday night. So, there is several events planned there. Concerts, Animal Shows, Big Rigs, Etc.
Chicago Natural History Museum, Free with our family membership. We got a great deal on the family membership this year. So, this is the year we focus on museums. This will cost us gas. We will pack our own food and drinks.
EAA Flight Museum, again from our family pass, we can stay overnight at some family's home and bring food. So, cost of gas is our only expense.
Wisconsin Dells???? Don't know yet
Camping, camping is not free, but with the State Park Sticker we can camp cheaply and have great family time.
Henry Villa Zoo, Located in Madison Wisconsin. Admission is Free, Parking is Free and it's right on the lake so we can pack a lunch and have a wonderful picnic!! We love doing this and do it almost every summer!
Milwaukee Brewers Game,  Free tickets with the Com'on Back deal. $5.00 for shipping and handling. Parking ( if we don't find it for free) and the cost of gas. We will bring food with us.
6 Flags Great America, Free tickets for the kids from the reading program, buy one get one free ticket discount coupon. We would pay for the one ticket on the BOGO, gas to get there and I am hoping for the Coke Rewards deals like last year. That covered dinner for all of us. We will wait and see on that!

This list is not finished, but it gives you an idea of how much Wisconsin has to offer for free. Many of these events I find by reading websites and our local newspaper.  Last year, The Wisconsin Historical Society had free Musueum Mondays. We are waiting to hear that announcement again. Also, I understand that the EAA and the Chicago Museum are not completely free, but we got such a good deal on that and it will be included this year. Also Wisconsin Dells, depends on what happens. Last year we got lucky and got tickets. I think this year may be more difficult because people are aware of the different giveaways and coupons. We will see.  Also, understand that Free Days at any event are more busy. People are taking advantage of the offer. So plan accordingly.

What Free options do you have in your area?

Free Subway Breakfast Sandwich on April 30th

OK, I heard this on the radio, so I am not sure which markets will be doing this. BUT, I wanted to mention it. On Friday, April 30th there will be a free subway breakfast sandwich to each person who visits there store. I believe I heard 7am to 10am. DID anyone else hear this commerical? I am hoping to hear it again tomorrow morning. I have looked for it on the internet and found no information.  I want to know what areas are doing this!

The Frugal Life.... just random thoughts...and the internet...

Frugal Living is a choice. It's choosing to make choices that are needs and not wants. . Recently, I had a friend who had no money, no home and just started a job but hadn't gotten paid yet..... but told me that she deserved a "treat" of the most expensive ice cream there was. My daughter, who heard this, asked me why she could do that and we couldn't. I told her that we need to make choices and that just because you want something doesn't mean it's a need. I had to show my daughter that my friends "need" wasn't a need at all but a want.

My family has choosen at times to not spend money. Not because we are "Scrooge" but because we have to make ever penny count! We don't have cable, we don't have caller ID, we don't have cell phone with cameras and texting on them. .... but we also don't have the BILLS and Debt that most families have. It's a choice and a lifestyle.

I am not saying that having those things are bad or wrong, just the opposite. I am saying that you are making choices that will impact your future. Recently, BOTH cars both down in the same week. Over $1,600 in repairs. We had a choice, put it on credit card or use our emergency fund. Due to the choices we have made, we had enough in our emergency fund to pay for it. It still hurt us financially ( emergency fund is very low and summer is just around the corner), and with my husband's layoff it's made it extremely tough to get by but we have the knowledge and faith to know that we will survive and we can do what we can to make ends meet. We know that the choices we make effect our future.

With that said, I use the internet not only for coupons and freebies but for a wealth of other ways to save and learn. Here are a few examples:

1. I want to encourage my kids to learn, so I use many different kidsafe websites to help them including http://pbskids.org/www.learningbox.com/base10/CatchTen.html; http://www.starfall.com/; http://www.funbrain.com/
and many others

2. I try to do things on my own. Like trim my daughters hair. There are several great sites to help you learn things. I like http://www.findhow.com/ or http://www.ehow.com/

3. I love to read and I also am looking for some hard to find books. There is a great website to trade books ( you pay the shipping here but at least they have some hard to find books) at http://www.paperbackswap.com/

4. Check your Credit Report!! Always know what is going on with your credit! The only free site for credit reports is http://www.annualcreditreport.com/.

5. My husband is not good at fixing things..but there is a great site to help him. It's http://www.fixitclub.com/ and http://www.diynetwork.com/.

6.  Use the Library!!  The Library is a great free resource!! Not only for books, but movies, music and more!  Also, look to see if your community has a Library Bulletin Board..And the have Free Internet Access.

7. http://www.freecycle.org/ is a great website for finding free things in your community. Understand that depending on who moderates your specific area, this can be a great resource or a weak one.

There are tons of great resources. There are many ways to save money. This is a lifestyle, not a burden and how you look at it will determine your perpective of it.

It's been a great frugal weekend for us. We went to Wisconsin Dells water park for free, the kids got a free lunch, and a wonderful family was cleaning out their freezer and asked if we wanted any of the extra food. We said yes and got some great frozen foods!!! This will at least keep us another week or two without going out to grocery shop!!  Also, my husband and I got to go on a date Friday night, it was free admission to an event at church and we found someone to babysit the kids for free. Thank goodness God provided all those things for us because we just paid the bill on the 2 cars breaking down!! OUCH! :) But, the weekend was great, we had fun and basically just paid for the gas to get around!!

Big Shopping Trip....$137.69 after coupons...whew!

Ok...I have had better trips and I didn't find as many sales on meats (thus we didn't buy much of that)...This one was kinda long ( or maybe I am just getting too old for this!!LOL) Anyways, We left at 10:30 and returned at 3:30...5 hours. Gas spent $6.43 ( according to the gas mileage cost calculator I found on line) OOP for all the stops was $137.69 and I got $10.00 in gift cards back.  It would have cost me $276.43 that includes the sale prices ( not the full prices, because who in the world would pay full price?) Frugal Notes from the Dining Room Table....

Well, good mail day...Coupon for a free SunChips ( from their facebook promo), sample bag of new Ritz Pretzel Crackers ( from facebook promo) and also sample of Puffs Klennex (Vocal Point Sample).

On the other side of frugality, we have paid off our debt, but our 2 vechiles BOTH broke down this past week (week of Easter) so that really cost a bundle! We have redone our budget to pay it off, but WHEW!

Which brings me to the topic of conversation, that I would love to hear feedback on from you!  My husband has been out of a job ( except for his 8 to 10 hours a week at a fast food joint) for over a year now. He didn't qualify for a Pell Grant, so going back to school wasn't even on his radar....until now, He has decided to go back to college. I have estimated this bachelor's degree to be 5 years long at a price tag of $35,000 to $40,000. He will be getting a student loan to pay for it.

So, While I support him on this decision, I am also concerned about the cost. We are trying to save for a few things. 1. a better home to live in  2. retirement and 3. college for the kids. I am concerned his going back to college will put those dreams on hold and creating debt for us.

What do you all think? I really support him going back to school... I believe he needs to for so many reasons. At the same time, how can we keep the costs down and make sure we can keep everything else in check?

On an unrelated note...I am VERY BEHIND ON COUPONS!!! I am like 3 weeks +++ behind!!! LOL..I have 2 BIG boxes to clip and sort...So, if you find I am MIA....now you know why!! Hehehehe!!!

I try to keep gifts between $10 and $20 per family member at Christmas. You may want to look into this. I am ordering 2. The coupon code is NEWCLBAG. Go to Artscow.com. Please remember these items take awhile to get, they are shipped from Hong Kong.  I have bought from them before and have been very pleased!

I just ordered a shoulder bag for my mom ( her birthday is in November, so that gift is done!) and one for myself.

Update on SB560

Well, Just got off the phone with Sentor Lehman's Office. The bill was not voted on yesterday and if it doesn't get voted on by April 22nd, the last day of this period, it will not be going anywhere. The man I spoke with tried to tell me that this bill will not ban rebates but will stop "advertising" such rebates unless the price of what you pay at the register is what is printed in the ad.

Okay, let's think about this. I look at my Sunday Paper, which will have a Menard's ad. It states: Jelly Bean Eggs, .29 cents after .50 cents mail in rebate. What about that is deceptive? If you know .29 cents PLUS .50 cents is .79 cents. Then you know how much you have to pay at the register. So, now, the advertising can't advertise the rebate unless it's given at the time of purchase? You mean the people of Wisconsin are too dumb to read?

The bill states:  prohibiting advertising the price of merchandise as reduced by an available rebate unless
the rebate is provided at the time of purchase.

Okay, MOST ( not all) mail in rebates have to do with the companies. So, if you are going to offer the "rebate" at the time of purchase, that is a sale price, RR or a catalina deal. Those are given, typically, by the store. The store isn't going to be responsible for giving the purchaser the rebate at the time of the purchase FROM A COMPANY, THUS KILLING REBATES IN WISCONSIN!!!

Example: The Olay Lotion Deal. If Walgreens had a deal on Olay Lotion and said $3.99 after mail in rebate.
It's OLAY that is offering the rebate. You can't go up to the counter and check out and expect Walgreens ( the store) to give you OLAY's ( company) rebate. The store isn't going to be responsible for the companies offer. This would cause more problems for the stores and for us shoppers. The companies will just stop offering rebates in the state of Wisconsin.

Furthmore, this means that when the stores print out there sunday advertising they will have to change the ads just for Wisconsin? I don't know the answer.

Here in the state of Wisconsin we already have the 6% minimum mark up law, which ruins many Black Friday Deals. Now we would have to have store change their ads because some people in Wisconsin can't add and figure out how much they pay at the register??

I will keep track of this. Even if they want to tell me it's about advertising practices, if you change the way the company is allowed to do rebates, it will impact our couponing and rebating practices.
